Providing a comfortable home environment and expert medical care for those at end-of-life without adequate housing.
LHPC (London Home Palliative Care) Community House Foundation's goal is to raise money to pay living expenses for underprivileged Londoners who are dying. If we can get patients at end-of-life into adequate housing, they are able to get full access to services already available to those who have a home.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
Please reach us at info@LHPCcommunityhouse.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Stack have been providing home-based palliative care for many years. Some patients aren't eligible for our services because they don't have stable housing. We thought... stable housing isn't very expensive.... so let's raise some money and provide stable housing. For every $30,000 we raise, we can fund one bed for an entire year. In one year, we could help 5-10 people dying from terminal disease, by giving them a safe and comfortable place for end-of-life.
Once patients have stable housing, they are able to access a full suite of publicly-funded services -- physicians, nursing, PSWs, care coordination, medical equipment, etc. So really, the $30k just opens up the opportunity to access more money that has OHIP-funding already.
We are planning to spend 100% of donated money on patient care. Mostly, this will consist of rent that we pay for housing. We plan to use rental units in London, as needed. We are a registered Canadian charity (CRA number 72291 6558 RR0001) and our financial results will be publicly available.
